Visit Lake Martel, the largest underground lake in Europe deep inside the dragon caves that date back to the Middle Ages. Made up of various chambers and four main caves, learn about the explorers who first mapped out the caves and French geologist Edouard-Alfred Martel who was the first to discover the cave and lake that bears his name.
A new entrance, paths, and ladders were added between 1922 and 1935 to make the caves more accessible to visitors. The tour takes about one hour and follows a well-lit 1.2 km path.
The walk ends at the fantastic Lago de Martel with a classical music concert provided by musicians floating across the lake in boats to a backdrop of beautiful lights. The temperature inside is around 21ºC, with a relative humidity of 80%.
